Full Album Stream: The VSS’ Nervous Circuits

The VSS

The VSS were an angular post-punk band from San Fransisco, famous for using horror-film keyboards in conjuncture with their hardcore punk stylings. There isn’t anything particularly original about this to begin with, but the VSS did it in a way that took something visceral and human and added a cold, robotic edge.

tl;dr: Angsty math-rock that sounds like a Jackson Pollock piece painted with blood.

The 1997 album Nervous Circuits, originally released on Honey Bear Records, was the VSS’ only full-length release. Thankfully the nice folks at Hydra Head records (home to Isis, Pelican, Oxbow, and Xasthur) have re-issued the album; it’s in stores now.
